Międzyodrze is the area between the tourist western Oder and the wider and deeper eastern Oder. It is a 60 km long and 6 km wide floodplain landscape in which peatlands and wetlands are intersected by a network of canals and altars. The floodplain landscape is a paradise for waterfowl and fish. In this area of the landscape park, you may only move with your own muscle power with rowboats, kayaks etc, boats with electric motors are allowed to go into this park. You are rewarded with silence interrupted only by the twittering of birds and the sound of the wind in the bushes. Until World War II, the area was regulated with locks and used for agriculture. For 70 years it has been a nature park. If you are lucky you will see wild boar, deer or beaver but more often you will be accompanied by haughty swans, wild ducks or a slender crane. The Guesthouse Bellevue is located on the banks of the western Oder and faces east.

Place

Siadło Dolne

Siadło Dolne (until 1945 Niederzahden) - is a small charming village in western Poland on the banks of the Oder. It lies 10 km from the city center of Szczecin and 130 km northeast of Berlin. The village can be reached from Szczecin railway station by bus Number 70 in 20 minutes. The Lower Oder Valley National Park is nearby. https://www.nationalpark-unteres-odertal.eu/de/ The history of the village goes back to the Lusatian culture. The nearby Szczecin was a major trading center and was part of the Hanseatic League. From 1630 the area was in Swedish hands. In 1713, the Prussians occupied the country, and in 1806 Napoleon occupied the area. After 1815 Szczecin became the capital of the Prussian province of Pomerania. After World War II Stettin became Polish. The village has a special microclimate. From the Middle Ages to the 18th century wine was grown in the village. Due to its location on the Oder, the village became a stop on the steamship route from Szczecin to Schwedt in the 19th century. During the Second World War, there was a camp in the village for Polish, Soviet and French prisoners. In the last days of World War II there were heavy fighting in and around Siadlo Dolne. The Lower Oder Valley National Park is home to many animals. In addition to rare and protected bird species such as white-tailed eagle, black stork or reed warbler, one can especially admire the beavers at work here. The wealth of the fauna includes over 40 species of fish and 50 different mammals. The village is an excellent starting point for lovers of water trips.
